Leap, Reach & Stretch
When I first did a quick sketch of a guy flipping over, I realized that I love a stretch!
I love drawing or painting someone in motion. I also love to learn new things — new ways to draw and paint — and in that stretch I find great adventure.
Likewise, I love leaps of the imagination, reaching for something beyond the status quo, and life moves that give us a fresh point of view.
It’s scary or uncomfortable at times, but I’ve decided I’d rather stretch than stagnate.
The Hand Series
As it was with the flip sketch, doing hand sketches highlighted my love for hands. I remember studying my hands very closely at about age six, marveling at their design and pondering the fact that some kind of life was inside of me that was more than just my body. (Big thoughts for a little kid!)
Not only are hands beautiful and expressive, but they are alive with such life-changing power and versatility. Even when our hands are empty, they can engage in healing, communicating and culture-shaping.
No wonder they made me ponder!
