Schedule an Art Party at YOUR Convenience!

How Does It Work?

You pick the time, invite your friends, your family or co-workers; I’ll provide the art fun and teach you my paper collage technique.

All my art parties  are held at Spirit Wind Center in the Velvet Mill in Stonington. We have other media available in our studio as well if you’d rather do something different.

Most people really enjoy learning to do the collage. All ages are welcome (I used to work as a teacher, so I’m experienced with nursery school-age children through high school and adults.

What Does It Cost?

$40 per person covers both supplies and instruction. A variety of canvas sizes are available and included in the cost.

If participants prefer to use a larger canvas, they can so so for a few dollars extra to cover the difference.

A $50 non-refundable down payment reserves the date for your group and can be applied toward the cost of those participating.

Will We All Make the Same Picture?

Art Parties let it ripNo. Each person gets to create his or her own unique piece.

I encourage you to bring a photo (or a few) that you might like to do in tissue; you can also just make something abstract if desired. I have magazine pictures and objects on hand for inspiration if you don’t have a specific idea yet, and will help those who wish to have more direction.

Some groups choose to do a specific theme, such as garden (for a garden club) or nautical (for a yacht club). I’ll work with your ideas.

How Much Time Will We Need?

Most art parties take about two (2) hours. Don’t worry if it runs over a little though. You can stretch it a bit if you need to.

I do allow time for people to schmooze and eat and put finishing touches on their pieces, etc.

How Many People Can You Take?

I will do a minimum of five people for an art party — and a max of around 15 is usually good. (I can do more but you will want to allow for some elbow room).

BUT if you don’t have a larger group and still want to try your hand at some art time, you can make your own appointment for one or two during regular studio hours at Spirit Wind Center.

Often Saturdays can work well for walk-in art appointments too.

Is It Okay to Bring Food and Wine?

Art Parties make for funOh yes that is fine. We have a small kitchen at our studio as well as plenty of room for a larger event.

You can even do a birthday party, shower, garden club, or other festive event here.

On certain days you may also bring in goodies from Zest Bakery and other shops at the Velvet Mill.

And hey, if you BYOB, you and other adults can indulge yourselves and call it a “Rip and Sip” art party.

What If I'm Not Creative?

That’s Okay. You’re probably more creative than you think. But just in case you’re worried, no amazing talent or experience is necessary.

You’ll be surprised at hwo much fun you can have messing around with tissue paper! It’s a forgiving medium; you can rip it off or put something over it and experiment until you have the effect that you like.

If you are still not sure, I offer a “Prayer for the Creative Juices” to get you started.
